Roles & Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver safe, therapeutic nursing care for long-term care residents
• Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and document findings in the EHR
• Administer age-appropriate medications and therapeutics accurately
• Supervise and delegate to CNAs, LPNs, and ward clerks; act as charge nurse when needed
• Develop, implement, and update individualized care plans in collaboration with the care team
• Provide patient and family education to promote understanding and coping
• Respond calmly and make sound clinical judgments in emergencies
• Transcribe physician orders, write progress notes, and ensure accurate documentation
• Participate in care conferences and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve outcomes
• Complete mandatory training, competency checks, and comply with state reporting guidelines

Qualifications

• Active Alaska Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Ability to provide 2 fingerprint cards upon acceptance (mandatory)
• Required flu vaccine prior to assignment
• Experience or comfort working in Long Term Care (LTC) settings
• Willingness to work 12-hour night shifts and occasional day shifts
• Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and serve as charge nurse when DON is not present
• Completion of mandatory training and competency checks as required by the facility

Education

• Active RN license (Registered Nurse) — degree type per licensure requirements

Knowledge & Skills

• Nursing assessment and clinical decision-making
• Medication administration and accurate EHR documentation
• Infection control practices and resident safety principles
• Delegation, supervision, and leadership on the unit
• Patient and family teaching with clear, compassionate communication
• Care planning, progress notes, and transcribing physician orders
• Familiarity with state mandatory reporting requirements and long-term care standards
