Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate postpartum and mother-baby nursing care to support recovery and bonding
• Perform newborn assessments and monitor maternal vitals to ensure safety
• Offer lactation support and parental education to promote successful breastfeeding
• Develop and implement individualized discharge plans and teach aftercare
• Document care clearly and accurately in the electronic health record
• Collaborate with physicians, lactation consultants, and multidisciplinary teams for patient-centered care
• Respond promptly to emergent maternal or neonatal concerns and escalate when needed

Qualifications

• Active RN licensure in North Carolina or compact state privileges where applicable
• Minimum 2+ years of clinical nursing experience, with postpartum or mother-baby experience preferred
• Current BLS certification required; NRP or lactation training highly desirable
• Comfort with maternal/newborn assessments, postpartum recovery, and patient education
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Completion of accredited nursing program and state licensure

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in postpartum maternal care and routine newborn assessments
• Knowledgeable about lactation support, breastfeeding techniques, and resources
• Proficient with electronic health records and clinical documentation
• Able to recognize and respond to postpartum complications and newborn concerns
• Strong patient education, counseling, and family-centered care skills
