Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients in the stepdown/PCU setting to detect changes in condition early
• Interpret cardiac telemetry and act promptly on critical findings
• Titrate IV drips safely and accurately, including heparin, amiodarone, cardizem, nitroglycerin and insulin
• Provide focused clinical care for patients with complex medical issues such as STEMI, CHF, sepsis and stroke
• Coordinate timely admissions and discharges while maintaining high-quality bedside care
• Deliver effective bedside report and perform hourly rounding to enhance patient experience
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including CNAs, RTs and charge nurses to optimize patient outcomes
• Document clinical care clearly and timely in EPIC and maintain unit policies and standards

Qualifications

• Current active RN license for practice in Nebraska
• BLS, ACLS and NIHSS certifications required at start
• Minimum 2 years of acute care or stepdown clinical experience preferred
• Demonstrated competency in telemetry interpretation and IV medication titration
• Driver's license required at submittal to confirm radius eligibility
• Willingness to float to MedSurg, Inpatient Rehab or Skilled Care as needed
• Ability to complete unit orientation (classroom + 2 clinical 12-hour shifts) and pass required competency exam

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma accepted (BSN preferred but not required)
• Active RN license in Nebraska

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong patient assessment and clinical judgment in a stepdown/PCU environment
• Telemetry monitoring and strip interpretation
• Proficiency with EPIC charting system
• Experience with BiPAP and Airvo respiratory support devices
• Safe IV medication administration and titration practices
• Effective teamwork, communication, and bedside patient engagement
• Familiarity with common diagnoses seen on unit: stroke, STEMI, CHF, COPD, DKA, sepsis
