Roles & Responsibilities

Monitor and assess pediatric patients in the post-anesthesia care unit with vigilance and compassion
Provide timely pain management and comfort measures tailored to children and families
Collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and the perioperative team to ensure safe transitions of care
Document patient status, interventions, and recovery progress accurately in the medical record
Educate and support families on postoperative care and discharge instructions in a clear, reassuring way
Participate in orientation and unit-based learning to help onboard new team members and maintain high standards

Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri or eligibility per state regulations
Pediatric PACU or post-anesthesia care experience is highly valued
Basic Life Support (BLS) required; PALS and ACLS preferred or encouraged
Strong assessment skills and comfort working with pediatric populations
Excellent communication, teamwork, and family-centered care skills
Ability to pass standard health screenings and background checks as required by facility

Knowledge & Skills

Pediatric post-anesthesia monitoring and recovery
Pain assessment and management for children
Familiarity with PACU equipment and monitoring devices
IV therapy, medication administration, and safe dosing practices
EMR documentation and accurate charting
Infection prevention, patient safety, and perioperative best practices
