Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess neurological stepdown patients, recognizing changes in condition early and acting decisively
• Administer medications and treatments accurately and safely, adhering to facility protocols
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (physicians, therapists, pharmacists) to create and execute patient-centered care plans
• Perform focused neuro assessments and telemetry monitoring with attention to detail
• Document patient care thoroughly and clearly in the electronic medical record
• Respond to emergent situations calmly and effectively, following unit code and escalation procedures
• Provide compassionate education and support to patients and families during recovery and discharge planning

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or eligibility to obtain one
• Experience or comfort working in Neuro Stepdown / SDU settings (telemetry and stepdown care)
• Comfort and ability to work 12.5-hour shifts
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and bedside monitoring skills
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; advanced certifications (e.g., ACLS) preferred where applicable

Education

• Nursing diploma, Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — program completion and active RN licensure required

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in neurological assessments and recognizing subtle changes in neuro status
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Skilled in IV therapy, medication administration, and titration per orders
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills for multidisciplinary collaboration
• Competent documentation in electronic medical record systems
