Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and evidence-based treatment to an incarcerated adult population
• Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications with careful monitoring and documentation
• Collaborate with mental health clinicians, custody staff, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and contribute to continuity of care
• Participate in training, case reviews, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical services
• Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation in accordance with facility and regulatory standards

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree with completed residency in Psychiatry
• Active, unrestricted medical license in California or ability to obtain state licensure promptly
• Board certification or board eligibility in Psychiatry preferred
• Experience working with mental health and psychiatry populations; substance abuse experience is a plus
• Familiarity with correctional healthcare environments or willingness to complete facility-specific training
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and any facility-required clearances/background checks

Education

• MD or DO in Psychiatry (completed residency in Psychiatry required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and psychopharmacology
• Strong clinical judgment and the ability to manage complex co-occurring mental health and substance use issues
• Excellent communication skills for working with patients and interdisciplinary teams
• Competence in clear, timely clinical documentation and electronic health record use
• Cultural sensitivity and the ability to provide care in a diverse, correctional setting
