Roles & Responsibilities

Assess and monitor patients in the Step-Down Unit with keen clinical judgment
Provide evidence-based nursing care and timely medication administration
Interpret telemetry and hemodynamic data to detect changes in patient status
Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members to optimize outcomes
Educate patients and families about diagnoses, care plans, and discharge preparations
Document care accurately and promptly in the medical record
Respond quickly and effectively to patient emergencies and changes in condition

Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana required
Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; ACLS preferred
Experience working in a Step-Down Unit or progressive care setting is preferred
Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple high-acuity patients and prioritize care effectively

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Telemetry interpretation and cardiac rhythm recognition
Hemodynamic monitoring and familiarity with common vasoactive medications
Post-operative and medical-surgical care for higher-acuity patients
Patient and family education with clear, compassionate communication
Electronic health record documentation and care coordination
