Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess respiratory status and deliver compassionate, patient-centered respiratory care
• Administer and monitor respiratory treatments, including aerosol therapy and oxygen therapy
• Manage ventilator settings and troubleshoot equipment safely and efficiently
• Perform pulmonary assessments and assist with arterial blood gas collection and interpretation
• Document treatments, patient responses, and progress accurately in the medical record
• Collaborate with nursing and medical staff to develop and implement effective care plans
• Maintain infection control standards and ensure equipment is cleaned and ready for use
• Participate in orientation and training to maintain unit readiness and quality care

Qualifications

• Current Respiratory Care Practitioner credential (RCP) or equivalent
• Valid California Respiratory Therapist / RCP license or ability to obtain one
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; ACLS and PALS preferred or a plus
• Previous clinical respiratory care experience preferred; correctional healthcare experience a plus
• Strong documentation skills and comfort working with electronic medical records
• Ability to complete required orientation week and maintain professional credentials

Education

• Associate degree in Respiratory Care or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in ventilator management and noninvasive ventilation techniques
• Proficient in pulmonary assessment, oxygen therapy, and aerosolized medication delivery
• Knowledgeable in arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation
• Familiar with infection control practices and safe equipment handling
• Strong communication and teamwork skills for multidisciplinary collaboration
• Able to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment
