Roles & Responsibilities

• Collect patient specimens accurately and with excellent patient communication
• Perform high-complexity testing in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank or microbiology using automated and manual methods
• Use the Laboratory Information System to receive orders, document results, and communicate with nurses and physicians
• Analyze and validate test results prior to release to ensure accuracy and patient safety
• Perform quality control, proficiency testing, instrument calibration, and preventative maintenance
• Report and document critical results and meet designated turnaround times
• Participate in method and instrument evaluation, implementation, and documentation
• Teach and train new partners and students; maintain and expand competency in current and new methods

Qualifications

• Current MLT or MLS Generalist Certification OR Specialty Certification (BB, C, H or M)
• Qualified to perform CLIA high complexity testing per CLIA 493.1489 standards
• Hematology and Blood Bank experience required
• Education verification required
• Experience with quality control, proficiency testing, instrument maintenance and calibration
• Strong communication skills for collaboration with nurses, physicians and laboratory staff

Education

• Education verification required (MLT/MLS certification or equivalent training)
• MLT/MLS Generalist Certification or an appropriate Specialty Certification (BB, C, H or M)

Knowledge & Skills

• Specimen collection best practices and patient interaction
• High complexity testing workflows (CLIA standards)
• Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis and Microbiology testing
• Laboratory Information System (LIS) use and result documentation
• Quality control, proficiency testing and result validation
• Instrument maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting
• Method implementation and process improvement
• Clear reporting of critical results and documentation skills
