Shift Type: Rotating shifts (8-, 10- and 12-hour); Days, Evenings, Nights; Weekends & Holidays; variable schedule (hours vary between units ASU and PACU). On-call 0-3 times/month (8-hour night and 24-hour weekend/holiday coverage). No guaranteed hours or shift preference.

Candidate Pay Rate: $58 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients in pre-op, Phase I and Phase II post-anesthesia recovery with vigilance and compassion
• Perform focused patient assessments including incision site checks, temperature control and hemodynamic monitoring
• Manage and titrate post-op equipment such as PCA pumps, IV pumps and warming devices to support recovery
• Collaborate closely with anesthesia, surgical teams and unit staff to ensure smooth transitions of care
• Document patient status and interventions accurately in Meditech and communicate changes promptly
• Provide patient and family education on post-op care, pain management and discharge readiness
• Respond to emergencies using critical-care skills and advanced life support protocols

Qualifications

• Active Hawaii RN license required by the start of assignment — candidates must apply if not currently licensed
• Minimum: 2+ years' experience as a critical care RN (ER/ICU) may be accepted as a substitute for PACU experience
• Valid BLS and ACLS from the American Heart Association (required)
• PALS (AHA) recommended and may be required for certain positions
• NIHSS and TNCC preferred and may be required for some roles
• Proof of flu vaccination or facility-approved medical/religious exemption required prior to contract start

Knowledge & Skills

• Post-anesthesia care and anesthesiology fundamentals
• Critical care assessment skills and vital signs monitoring
• Experience with Meditech electronic medical records
• Operation of PCA pumps, Pyxis medication systems and Braun IV pumps
• Familiarity with CryoCuff, SCDs and Bair PAWS warmers
• Monitoring on HP and Phillips monitors and recognizing trends
• Surgical nursing and pediatric skills are a plus
