Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered oncology and post-surgical nursing care on the K9A Oncology/Women’s Surgical unit
• Assess, monitor and document patient status using Cerner EMR to ensure safe, coordinated care
• Administer treatments and medications according to protocols and physician orders, following safe chemo practices if certified
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams—physicians, CNAs, HUCs and other RNs—to optimize patient outcomes
• Perform or assist with unit procedures as needed (occasional pelvic exams, echo monitoring, thoracentesis support)
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments and discharge plans in a clear, compassionate way
• Maintain unit standards, follow hospital policies and contribute to a positive unit culture

Qualifications

• Current RN license (must be active and in good standing)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years clinical nursing experience (experience in oncology and/or med-surgical care preferred)
• Comfortable working overnight shifts and scheduled weekend coverage (staff required to work 6 weekend days per schedule)
• Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
• Chemo certification preferred but not required; candidates with chemo experience will be prioritized
• Strong teamwork, communication skills and willingness to learn in a dynamic unit

Knowledge & Skills

• Oncology nursing principles and med-surgical patient management
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical records
• Familiarity with common unit procedures: pelvic exams, echocardiography monitoring, thoracentesis assistance
• Ability to manage 1:4–1:5 patient ratios safely and efficiently
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking and patient education skills
• Team-oriented mindset and adaptability in a busy hospital environment
