Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide attentive, evidence-based nursing care to neonates in the NICU and nursery
- Perform neonatal assessments and monitor vital signs, recognizing changes quickly
- Lead neonatal resuscitation efforts and follow NRP, ACLS and BLS protocols when needed
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists and families to develop and execute care plans
- Document care accurately and communicate handoffs clearly to ensure continuity
- Educate and support families on infant care, feeding and discharge planning
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted RN license (eligible to practice in Louisiana)
- NRP certification required
- ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Clinical experience caring for newborns in NICU or nursery settings (experience in neonatal care required)
- Ability to work night shifts and function well in a fast-paced team environment
- Up-to-date immunizations and ability to pass required background and health screenings
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN/ASN or BSN)
- BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of neonatal physiology and common NICU practices
- Proficiency in neonatal assessment and monitoring
- Skilled in neonatal resuscitation and emergency response using NRP guidelines
- Clear, compassionate communication with families and interdisciplinary teams
- Excellent clinical judgement and ability to prioritize in high-acuity situations
- Accurate clinical documentation and effective shift handoffs
