Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate hands-on care to geriatric residents, assisting with activities of daily living with dignity and respect
- Monitor and record vital signs, intake/output, and behavioral observations accurately
- Assist nursing staff with safe transfers, mobility support, and fall prevention
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents
- Communicate changes in resident condition promptly to the nursing team and document interventions clearly
- Support mealtime assistance and basic grooming needs while encouraging resident independence
- Participate in team huddles and care planning to help deliver coordinated, person-centered care
Qualifications
- Current GNA (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) certification required
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred or required per facility policy
- Ability to pass required background check and drug screening
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate bedside manner
- Previous experience in long-term care or geriatric settings is a plus, but enthusiastic newcomers are welcome
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- GNA certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of infection control and basic safety protocols
- Skill in assisting with ADLs (bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding)
- Ability to take and accurately record vital signs and observations
- Familiarity with resident-centered care approaches and documentation practices
- Good teamwork, time management, and clear communication skills
