Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform perioperative nursing duties in the pediatric operating room, including scrubbing and circulating during cases
• Provide compassionate, age-appropriate care to neonatal, infant, pediatric and adolescent patients
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists and the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient surgeries
• Monitor cardiac and hemodynamic status and respond quickly to changes
• Administer blood and blood products per protocol and manage specimen handling and labeling
• Maintain strict infection control and universal protocol (time out) compliance
• Start peripheral IVs, assist with airway management including tracheostomy care, and support conscious sedation monitoring
• Document care accurately in Epic and participate in handoffs and interdisciplinary communication

Qualifications

• Active California RN license required
• AHA BLS required and PALS required
• Minimum 2 years pediatric OR experience; 3 years preferred
• Trauma Level I experience required; Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Epic charting experience required
• CNOR preferred and previous charge experience is a plus
• Teaching hospital or community hospital experience preferred
• COVID-19 vaccine required plus booster unless medical or religious exemption is documented
• First-time travel nurses are welcome

Knowledge & Skills

• Scrub surgical procedures across pediatric specialties including general, ENT, ortho, neuro and cardiac
• Pediatric patient care and family-centered communication
• Trauma care and emergency management including code response
• Cardiac monitoring and hemodynamic assessment
• Administration of blood and blood products with strict specimen handling
• Infection control best practices and Universal Protocol (time out) procedure
• Starting peripheral IVs and wound management
• Familiarity with equipment like cell saver, electrosurgical units and fiber optic light sources
