Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality emergency care for combined adult and pediatric patients with compassion and clinical precision
- Perform pediatric-focused assessments, triage, and stabilization in a busy Level II Trauma Center
- Manage advanced airway interventions including intubation and ventilator care for critically ill patients
- Start and maintain IVs, manage central lines, administer blood products and IV vasopressors safely
- Interpret dysrhythmias and obtain/interpret 12-lead EKGs to guide emergency cardiac interventions
- Assist with chest tube insertion/management, arterial line care, capnography and ABG interpretation
- Provide procedural sedation monitoring and manage continuous IV paralytics/sedation when required
- Collaborate with respiratory, radiology, social work and rapid response teams to coordinate timely patient care
- Document care accurately and educate patients and families through stressful emergency events
- Respond effectively to trauma, multisystem organ dysfunction and psychiatric emergencies with calm leadership
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (strong RNs 1+ year considered; posting specifies 2 years)
- Pediatric population experience required (HARD STOP)
- Previous travel experience required
- Certifications: BLS required; ACLS, PALS, NIHSS and LA City Fire Card preferred
- Experience in Emergency Department/Trauma (Level II Trauma Center experience preferred)
- Comfort managing 1:4 patient ratios in a high-volume ED (250–340 visits/day)
- Familiarity with blood product administration, central line care, ventilator management and emergency medications
Knowledge & Skills
- Triage and emergency assessment across neonates through geriatrics
- Pediatric emergency nursing and trauma care
- Airway management, intubation and ventilator management
- IV therapy, phlebotomy and central line management
- Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
- Chest tube care, arterial line management and ICP monitoring
- Procedural sedation monitoring and emergency medication administration
- Capnography, ABG interpretation and care of multi-system critically ill patients
- Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams during high-acuity events
