Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts: Day 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM (3x12), Night 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (3x12); schedule includes 4 on/3 off patterns and variable day/night assignments with every-other-weekend coverage
Hours per Week: 60
Candidate Pay Rate: $68 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, expert nursing care to pediatric cardiac step-down patients, managing complex post-op and cardiac conditions
- Monitor telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias to rapidly identify and escalate changes in cardiac status
- Manage invasive lines and devices including arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes and high-flow nasal cannula
- Administer and monitor blood products, TPN/lipids, and critical cardiac medications safely and accurately
- Perform and document assessments, interventions and patient education using Epic with clear, timely charting
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (respiratory, pharmacy, PT, social work) to create and execute individualized care plans
- Participate in rapid response/PEWS and be ready to act decisively during pediatric emergencies
- Float to other UCSF units as needed, bringing a team-first attitude and adaptability
Qualifications
- Active California RN license (required)
- AHA BLS and PALS certifications (required)
- Minimum 2 years experience in pediatric cardiac transitional care / step-down (required)
- PICU experience strongly preferred
- Familiarity with Epic electronic health record (required)
- Willingness and ability to float to other UCSF units and facilities
- Ability to work rotating 12-hour day or night shifts and every-other-weekend coverage
- COVID-19 vaccine and booster required per facility guidelines (medical/religious exemptions only)
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Arterial line and central line care and blood draws
- Management of chest tubes and high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
- IV therapy, phlebotomy, starting and maintaining IVs
- Administration of blood products and TPN/lipids
- NG tube insertion and gastric tube management
- Pediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS) and rapid response protocols
- Infection control practices and PPE compliance
- Experience caring for congenital heart disease, post-cardiac surgery and post-catheterization patients
- Comfort working in a fast-paced teaching hospital environment and using Epic
