Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality one-to-one nursing care during active labor and delivery, ensuring maternal and fetal safety
- Perform and interpret fetal monitoring and NSTs, and initiate appropriate interventions for abnormal patterns
- Administer medications such as magnesium sulfate and oxytocin according to protocol and monitor responses
- Conduct sterile vaginal exams and support labor progress while communicating clearly with the interdisciplinary team
- Manage postpartum care with attention to recovery, education, and 1:3 postpartum ratios
- Triage obstetrical patients, escalate concerns promptly, and collaborate with providers and support services
- Document thoroughly in Epic to ensure continuity of care and accurate patient records
Qualifications
- Active RN license in Oregon or compact-license eligible (preferred)
- BLS and NRP required; FHM preferred
- Minimum ~2 years LDRP (Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum) experience preferred
- Comfortable with floating between units and nearby facilities as needed
- Experience with Epic charting preferred
- Reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license required for this assignment
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in LDRP nursing and labor management
- Skilled in External Fetal Monitoring (EFM) and interpretation of fetal heart rate patterns
- Experience performing NSTs (Non-Stress Tests) and sterile vaginal exams
- Knowledgeable in medication administration: magnesium sulfate, Pitocin (oxytocin), pain management and epidural care
- AWHONN staffing standards and appropriate patient ratio experience (1:1 active labor; 1:3 postpartum)
- Triage and assessment of obstetrical patients, plus reflex/edema/clonus checks
- Comfortable charting in Epic and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams
