Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate daily care to geriatric residents, promoting dignity and comfort
- Assist with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, toileting, and mobility
- Take and record vital signs accurately and report changes in condition
- Support feeding and nutrition needs, following care plans and dietary guidelines
- Communicate clearly with nurses, families, and interdisciplinary team members
- Maintain a safe, clean environment and follow infection-control practices
- Document care activities promptly and accurately in resident records
- Act as an advocate for residents, ensuring their needs and preferences are respected
Qualifications
- GNA (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) certification — required
- Current BLS/CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Prior experience in long-term care, assisted living, or geriatric settings is a plus
- Comfortable assisting with mobility and ADLs; patient-focused and compassionate
- Ability to follow care plans, communicate effectively, and work as part of a team
- Must meet facility background check and health screening requirements
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of an accredited GNA training program
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of geriatric care principles and age-related conditions
- Skill in safe resident transfers and proper body mechanics
- Proficient in taking and documenting vital signs and observing clinical changes
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with residents and families
- Basic infection control, safety protocols, and medication awareness
- Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to follow directions from nursing staff
