Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess lactation needs and deliver expert evidence-based lactation management for inpatient and outpatient patients
- Develop individualized treatment plans and coordinate interdisciplinary care for complex lactation cases
- Provide prenatal and postpartum lactation education, consultations and teaching to families and staff
- Lead and oversee lactation services, offering mentorship and guidance to clinical teams
- Document care accurately in the medical record system and communicate plans to the care team
- Serve as a point-of-contact for advanced lactation support and collaborate on care transitions
Qualifications
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) — required (equivalents not accepted)
- Minimum 2500 hours experience as a breastfeeding consultant — required
- Current Massachusetts clinical license (RN, OT, PT, SLP or Pharmacist acceptable) — required
- Active American Heart Association BLS — required and must be uploaded with profile
- Experience with inpatient lactation programs and outpatient prenatal/postpartum education — required
- Meditech Expanse experience — strongly preferred
- Supervisor-signed reference from within the past two years — required
- Must have own vehicle for assignment and include permanent address in profile
- Travel/residency rule: facility will not consider candidates who reside within 50 miles of the facility
Education
- Board Certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) — required
- Active Massachusetts clinical license (RN/OT/PT/SLP/Pharmacist) — required
Knowledge & Skills
- Deep knowledge of lactation management, assessment and treatment planning
- Skilled at interdisciplinary care planning and clear clinical communication
- Ability to teach and provide prenatal/postpartum education to families and staff
- Leadership oversight and program development experience in lactation services
- Familiarity with Meditech Expanse or similar electronic medical records
- Strong documentation skills and attention to credential completeness
