Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality emergency care under the supervision of an on-site ED physician — collaborate closely to deliver safe, timely treatment.
- Interpret EKGs and act on critical cardiac findings promptly and confidently.
- Monitor and supervise EMS/paramedic activity via radio, ensuring smooth prehospital-to-ED transitions.
- Triage and assess patients across the lifespan, prioritizing needs and coordinating consults with specialty services.
- Coordinate with consulting teams (radiology, critical care, cardiology, etc.) to expedite diagnostics and disposition.
- Document assessments and plans clearly to support continuity of care and smooth handoffs.
- Participate in a team-focused environment where patient safety and clear communication are top priorities.
Qualifications
- Board-certified Emergency Medicine NP or PA (board certification required).
- Active NP or PA license (or ability to obtain Massachusetts licensure prior to start).
- Demonstrated EKG interpretation skills and ED experience preferred.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (or ability to obtain before starting).
- Comfort working in a Critical Access Hospital setting with pediatric through geriatric patients.
- Willingness to complete credentialing (timeline ~1–2 months) and to work collaboratively with supervising physicians.
Education
- Graduate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program (NP or PA).
- Board certification in Emergency Medicine (NP or PA) as indicated.
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid emergency medicine clinical judgment and rapid decision-making.
- Proficiency in EKG interpretation and recognition of arrhythmias and acute ischemia.
- Experience monitoring and supervising EMS interactions via radio communications.
- Comfort managing trauma, pediatric, and geriatric presentations (trauma designation: Critical Access Hospital).
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with multi-disciplinary consult services.
- Ability to work in a small ED (8 beds) with relatively high admission and transfer rates.
