Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Support safe transfers and mobility, using proper body mechanics and lift assistance when required
- Monitor and record vital signs and basic observations, reporting changes promptly to nursing staff
- Provide compassionate companionship and engage residents in meaningful activities
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation of care and resident progress
- Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and facility policies at all times
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with residents, families, and the care team to promote coordinated care
Qualifications
- Current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification or equivalent in the state of Maryland
- Prior experience in long-term care, skilled nursing, or assisted living preferred but not required
- Basic life support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Able to pass background check, drug screen, and meet facility health requirements
- Compassionate attitude, strong communication skills, and ability to work well in a team
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- GNA certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Familiarity with assisting elders with activities of daily living and mobility support
- Basic knowledge of infection control and safe patient handling
- Comfortable taking and recording vital signs and observing changes in condition
- Good interpersonal skills, patience, and the ability to provide person-centered care
- Reliable time management, documentation skills, and ability to follow care plans
