Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver evidence-based occupational therapy interventions under the direction of the OTR to help patients regain independence
- Assist with ADL training and adaptive equipment recommendations to improve daily function
- Document progress and outcomes clearly and on time to support continuity of care
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and facility staff to create person-centered care plans
- Educate patients and families on home strategies and safety to support discharge success
- Adapt treatment activities to meet each patient’s cognitive and physical needs while maintaining safety
Qualifications
- Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credential required
- Active or eligible for New Mexico occupational therapy assistant licensure
- Open to all experience levels — new grads welcome
- Current CPR/BLS preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Ability to pass standard background check and drug screening as required by the facility
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) setting
Education
- Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program (Associate degree or equivalent)
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of OT principles and therapeutic use of daily activities
- Familiarity with SNF workflows, documentation, and regulatory expectations
- Skilled in safe transfer and mobility techniques
- Good clinical reasoning to modify interventions based on progress and tolerance
- Clear written and verbal communication for effective team coordination
- Time management and caseload organization to maintain quality documentation
