Roles & Responsibilities
- Support pharmacists by accurately preparing, labeling, and dispensing medications under supervision
- Operate and maintain automated pharmacy equipment (ScriptPro, Kirby Lester, Pyxis) and perform daily clean/refill tasks
- Perform inventory management: order, receive, stock, and rotate medications and supplies
- Assist with sterile compounding activities, including cleaning and restocking the IV hood and monitoring hood pressures
- Complete required recordkeeping and controlled substance paperwork with attention to detail
- Provide friendly, confidential customer service at the pharmacy window and over the phone, triaging questions and routing to the pharmacist when needed
- Monitor refrigerator temperatures, check crash carts, and ensure pharmacy areas stay clean, organized, and compliant
- Document unit-specific procedures and support quality assurance activities under pharmacist review
Qualifications
- Current Pharmacy Technician license — State of Alaska (required at hire)
- Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) required within one year of hire
- Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every three years thereafter
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years thereafter
- 1-2 years of customer service experience; healthcare or related experience preferred
- Strong communication skills and ability to multitask in a busy pharmacy environment
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Pharmacy Technician License — State of Alaska (required at hire)
- Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) — required within one year if not already certified
Knowledge & Skills
- Medication preparation, pharmaceutical calculations, and medication labeling/dispensing
- Experience with pharmacy computer systems and automated equipment (ScriptPro, Kirby Lester, Pyxis)
- Sterile compounding and hazardous drug handling knowledge
- Inventory management, ordering, receiving, and stock rotation
- Familiarity with drug names, strengths, generics, medical terminology, and pharmacy law
- Excellent customer service, telephone triage, and teamwork skills
