Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide skilled physical therapy interventions and assist with therapeutic exercise programs to help residents regain function
- Assess patient progress and modify treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising therapist
- Document treatments accurately and timely in the facility’s clinical records
- Communicate clearly with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team to support patient-centered goals
- Assist with safe patient transfers, gait training, and use of assistive devices
- Maintain therapy equipment and ensure a clean, safe treatment environment
- Travel between assigned sites as scheduled and represent the facility professionally at each location
Qualifications
- Current PTA license or certification appropriate for practice in Virginia (required)
- BLS/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Comfortable providing care across two nearby sites (split Newport News/Harmony at Oakbrooke schedule)
- Strong communication and documentation skills with attention to detail
- Team-oriented attitude and a commitment to delivering compassionate rehabilitation care
Education
- Associate Degree in Physical Therapist Assistant or related field (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and basic therapeutic interventions
- Gait training, transfers, and safe mobility techniques
- Knowledge of modalities and assistive devices commonly used in post-acute care
- Clinical documentation and electronic health record familiarity
- Ability to prioritize caseload and collaborate with nursing and rehab staff
- Strong interpersonal skills for patient and family education
