Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality cardiovascular and stepdown nursing care using sound clinical judgment
• Monitor and interpret EKGs and respond to cardiac changes promptly and effectively
• Manage post-operative open heart surgery patients in the 18-24 hour post-op window
• Participate in care for patients undergoing PTCA, stents, TAVR, MitraClip, and biventricular pacemaker procedures
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to implement clinical pathways and provide patient education
• Support congestive heart failure care plans and electrophysiology study patients
• Float to similar units as needed to ensure patient safety and unit coverage
• Complete required skills checklist and maintain current ACLS/BLS certifications

Qualifications

• 1+ year of Stepdown experience required
• Michigan RN license required; provide LARA and Nursys verification (include explanation for any license hits)
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
• Comfortable with EKG interpretation and cardiac nursing practice
• Willingness to travel and accept a travel assignment
• Able to float to similar units when needed
• Skills checklist completed within one year of application

Knowledge & Skills

• EKG interpretation and cardiac rhythm recognition
• Post-operative open heart surgery care and monitoring
• Care of patients with congestive heart failure
• Experience with electrophysiology studies and advanced cardiac procedures (PTCA, stents, TAVR, MitraClip, biventricular pacemakers)
• Stepdown nursing competencies and telemetry monitoring
• Ability to adapt and float to similar medical-surgical or specialty units
