Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor neuro/epilepsy patients using telemetry and trend EEGs, detecting subtle changes in condition
• Interpret dysrhythmias and immediately escalate concerns per unit protocol
• Perform and demonstrate competency in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes in SIMs Lab and on the unit
• Maintain strict sterile technique during procedures and interventions
• Serve as charge nurse when scheduled—lead the team, manage workflow, and ensure safe staffing
• Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, RT, pharmacy and SWAT IV team to coordinate patient care
• Document patient assessments and interventions accurately in Cerner
• Participate in lifts, restraints, and wound care education to safely support patient mobility and recovery

Qualifications

• Active RN license (eligible to submit; facility will accept delayed submission in some cases)
• Minimum 2 years nursing experience (MedSurg/Telemetry experience required)
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• BLS and ACLS certification required prior to start
• Competency in dysrhythmia recognition (must pass dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance)
• Demonstrated skill with Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (SIMs Lab pass required)
• Telemetry monitoring experience and comfort with neuro/epilepsy patient population
• Ability to travel with own vehicle for travel teams and valid driver's license
• Facility-specific requirements: natural hair color and no facial piercings; men must be clean shaven for fit testing

Education

• BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
• Neuro-focused assessments including cranial nerve evaluation
• Acute neuro/post-op care (epilepsy monitoring, TBI, subdural hematoma, brain tumor care)
• Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing care with sterile technique
• Critical thinking to detect subtle patient changes and escalate appropriately
• Experience with Cerner charting system
• Working knowledge of vents/BiPAP management and collaboration with RT
