Roles & Responsibilities

• Administer safe, competent respiratory care procedures as ordered by physicians, focusing on emergency, neonatal, pediatric, geriatric and critical care when needed
• Initiate, maintain and monitor mechanical ventilation and adjust settings based on patient assessment and ventilator waveform interpretation
• Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and interpret results to guide therapeutic interventions
• Provide effective airway management including bag-mask ventilation and assist with intubation
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation of all respiratory care procedures and patient status
• Troubleshoot and operate cardiopulmonary equipment, ensuring safe and effective use
• Deliver patient and family education, and participate in interdisciplinary rounds and department meetings
• Precept and assist in orientation of new staff and students, contributing to department training
• Adhere to infection control, PPE requirements, and organizational policies to maintain a safe environment
• Complete required trainings, reconciliations, and timely submission of payroll/time records

Qualifications

• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential per NBRC required
• Graduate of a COARC‑approved Respiratory Care Program
• BLS certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire)
• NRP certification (must be obtained within 6 months of hire)
• At least 1 year of respiratory experience in a hospital setting
• Ability to pass background check, drug screen and meet employee health requirements
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
• Minimum age requirement noted in policy (16+, 21+ for driving roles where applicable)

Education

• Graduate of a COARC‑approved Respiratory Care Program
• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
• CRT credential (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Mechanical ventilation initiation, maintenance and ventilator management
• Arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and interpretation
• Patient respiratory assessment across the lifespan: neonatal, pediatric, adult, geriatric
• Airway management and suctioning techniques; intubation assistance
• Use and troubleshooting of cardiopulmonary equipment and interpretation of waveform data
• Infection control practices and PPE compliance
• Documentation best practices and effective handoff/reporting
• Pulmonary and cardiac diagnostics familiarity (EKG, Holter, stress testing) as a plus
