Shift Type: Night, 3x12-hour nights, 6:45 PM - 7:15 AM (schedule varies); every other weekend required; float and on-call responsibilities as needed
Hours per Week: 36
Candidate Pay Rate: $53 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric medical-surgical and oncology patients
- Administer and monitor chemotherapy/biotherapy (IV, PO, or injection) safely and per protocol
- Perform IV therapy, central line/PICC care and central line blood draws with precision
- Manage complex drips and infusions including heparin and insulin drips
- Assess patients frequently and respond to changes, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Deliver wound care including Wound VAC management and surgical drain/chest tube care
- Administer blood products and manage transfusion safety
- Document care accurately in EPIC and use PYXIS for medication management
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (PT, RT, pharmacy, rapid response) to coordinate excellent patient-centered care
- Support unit readiness for emergency events (storm/hurricane/mass casualty) and participate in assigned teams as needed
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, medications, procedures and discharge plans
Qualifications
- Active RN license in the state of North Carolina (or compact license as applicable)
- Minimum 2 years Med/Surg experience; oncology experience preferred
- Oncology certification (ONC/ONS/ONCC) required prior to start — traveler must be chemo-certified and able to administer chemotherapy
- BLS required
- Ability to pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty
- Comfort with floating to similar inpatient areas and flexible to unit needs
- Willingness to participate in storm/hurricane or emergency response teams when assigned
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions allowed); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN/ASN or BSN)
- BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong Med/Surg and oncology nursing knowledge and best practices
- Chemotherapy/biotherapy administration and monitoring
- IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC and central line management
- Blood product administration and transfusion safety
- Wound care and Wound VAC experience
- Familiarity with EPIC documentation and PYXIS medication systems
- SBAR communication and effective handoff skills
- Non-invasive airway management and oxygen therapy (nasal cannula)
- Ability to manage surgical drains and chest tube systems
- Critical thinking for rapid assessment and emergency response
