Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, compassionate care to critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU
• Assess and monitor patient status continuously, responding to changes quickly and confidently
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and blood products safely and in line with protocols
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members — physicians, respiratory therapists, and families — to create and execute care plans
• Operate and manage critical care equipment (ventilators, infusion pumps) with vigilance
• Document patient care accurately in the electronic medical record and communicate changes at handoff
• Coach and support families through complex care situations with empathy and clear communication

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure — California RN preferred
• At least one year of PICU or pediatric critical care experience preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) highly desired
• Strong critical thinking, assessment, and hands-on clinical skills
• Excellent communication skills and a teamwork mindset

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
• BSN preferred where available

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric critical care principles and patient assessment
• Ventilator management and oxygenation strategies for children
• Medication administration, titration, and IV therapy in the PICU
• Familiarity with pediatric monitoring equipment and alarms
• Family-centered care and effective communication with parents/caregivers
• Electronic medical record documentation and handoff practices
• Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced critical care setting
• Calm, decisive response to emergency situations and codes
