Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate post-anesthesia care and monitoring for pediatric patients in the PACU
• Assess and document vital signs, pain levels, airway status and neurologic status consistently
• Administer medications and manage IV therapies safely and accurately
• Collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons and the multidisciplinary care team to ensure smooth handoffs
• Educate families and caregivers on post-operative care and discharge instructions in a clear, reassuring manner
• Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition, initiating emergency protocols when necessary
• Maintain accurate, timely electronic health record documentation and participate in quality improvement efforts

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri or compact license eligibility
• Experience in PACU or post-anesthesia care; pediatric PACU experience strongly preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; PALS and ACLS preferred or willing to obtain
• Strong clinical assessment, prioritization and critical thinking skills
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
• Ability to pass required background checks and maintain required immunizations

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of post-anesthesia recovery assessment and interventions
• Pediatric nursing principles and family-centered care
• IV therapy, pain management strategies and airway management basics
• Familiarity with electronic health record charting and documentation best practices
• Infection control, patient safety protocols and medication administration safety
