Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor neuro stepdown patients, recognizing subtle changes in neurological status
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately, following physician orders
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient care plans
• Provide clear, compassionate education and support to patients and families
• Respond promptly to patient needs and urgent clinical changes
• Document patient care thoroughly and ensure smooth handoffs between shifts
• Maintain unit standards for infection control, safety, and quality improvement

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (eligible candidates welcome; Louisiana licensure preferred)
• Experience or demonstrated competency in Neuro Stepdown/SDU care
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred or obtainable upon hire
• Comfort working 12+ hour clinical shifts in an acute care setting
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — BSN preferred where available

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of neurological assessment and monitoring
• Familiarity with telemetry, post-op neuro care, and progressive care protocols
• Ability to prioritize care in a fast-paced stepdown environment
• Proficient documentation and electronic medical record (EMR) use
• Teamwork, patient advocacy, and effective communication skills
