Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess, triage, and monitor patients presenting to the emergency department with speed and clinical confidence
- Administer medications and treatments safely and document all care accurately
- Respond to emergency situations and collaborate with physicians and the multidisciplinary team to stabilize patients
- Provide clear patient and family education, ensuring understanding of next steps and follow-up care
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic health record documentation and handoffs
- Support infection control practices and maintain a safe environment for patients and staff
- Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care
- Assist with procedures and use of ED-specific equipment as needed
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (compact license accepted where applicable)
- Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred or required by facility
- Prior Emergency Department (ED/ER) nursing experience preferred
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills in fast-paced settings
- Ability to work 12.5-hour shift patterns and adapt to unit needs
- Current immunizations and compliance with facility onboarding requirements
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Triage and emergency assessment skills
- IV therapy, medication administration, and basic procedural support
- Familiarity with electronic health record documentation
- Excellent communication and teamwork in high-acuity environments
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients safely
- Strong situational awareness and crisis resource management
- Basic knowledge of emergency protocols and infection control
