Roles & Responsibilities

Provide thoughtful, evidence-based post-anesthesia care to patients in PACU
Monitor and assess patients continuously, recognizing subtle changes in condition
Manage airway, pain control, and hemodynamic status with confidence
Collaborate closely with anesthesiology, surgery, and multidisciplinary teams for safe handoffs
Document care accurately and promptly in the patient record
Educate patients and families about recovery expectations and discharge instructions
Respond quickly to emergencies and participate in unit-based quality improvement

Qualifications

Current RN licensure in Louisiana or eligibility for licensure
Prior PACU or post-anesthesia nursing experience preferred
Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
Strong assessments skills and comfort with monitoring post-op patients
Excellent communication and teamwork skills; professionalism and compassion

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Post-anesthesia assessment and monitoring
Airway management and oxygenation strategies
Pain management modalities and multimodal analgesia
Familiarity with PACU protocols and discharge criteria
Proficient documentation and use of electronic medical records
Ability to triage and prioritize in a fast-paced recovery environment
