Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and verify case carts according to preference cards to ensure every procedure has the right instruments
• Scrub and assist in the operating room, maintaining a sterile field and prioritizing patient safety
• Communicate clearly with RN staff and Sterile Processing to coordinate instrumentation throughout the day
• Review daily schedules with charge nurse and SPD coordinator to identify potential turnover delays and resolve issues
• Manage core phone and communications duties, delegate tasks, and coordinate breaks without missing a beat
• Serve as a resource for SPD and Surgical Services for procurement of supplies and instrumentation for scheduled and unscheduled cases
• Coordinate with materials management on supply utilization and deployment to keep the OR running smoothly

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent military surgical technologist program
• Certified Surgical Technologist (required)
• American Heart Association BLS (required)
• Experience or comfort working variable and rotating OR shifts
• Strong communication, teamwork, and delegation skills in a fast-paced surgical environment

Education

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or successful completion of equivalent military program

Knowledge & Skills

• Surgical technique and operating room procedures
• Human anatomy and surgical procedures knowledge
• Aseptic technique and instrument sterilization best practices
• Case cart preparation and interpretation of preference cards
• OR instrumentation and sterile processing (SPD) coordination
• Inventory and materials management, including procurement
• Patient safety focus and effective team coordination
