Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform utilization reviews using InterQual and Milliman criteria to ensure appropriate level of care
• Conduct concurrent, retrospective and continued stay reviews and document decisions in EPIC
• Investigate and prepare thorough appeals for payor denials — this role has a hard stop on appeals experience
• Apply CPT, ICD-10 and DRG knowledge to support clinical and billing accuracy
• Collaborate with care teams and payors to coordinate safe, efficient patient transitions
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (CMS, NCQA, Joint Commission, HIPAA) in all reviews
• Maintain clear, timely charting and case documentation to support quality and audit readiness
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives to streamline utilization management workflows

Qualifications

• Active Washington RN License required
• BLS certification required
• Registered Nurse (RN) with at least 1 year of clinical experience
• Experience with EPIC charting strongly preferred
• Demonstrated experience or willingness to manage appeals and payor denials (required)
• Familiarity with InterQual Criteria and Milliman Guidelines preferred
• Comfort working fully remote and meeting guaranteed hours expectations
• Good communication, critical thinking and decision-making skills

Education

• Nursing diploma or degree (ADN/BSN) preferred
• Active RN licensure in Washington required

Knowledge & Skills

• Utilization Review processes (concurrent, retrospective, continued stay)
• InterQual Criteria and Milliman Guidelines
• CPT coding, ICD-10 and DRG concepts
• Regulatory knowledge: CMS, NCQA, The Joint Commission, HIPAA, OSHA
• Charting and documentation in EPIC
• Appeals management and payor denial resolution
• Ability to synthesize clinical data and justify utilization decisions
• Strong customer service and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
