Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts: 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM (days) and 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM (nights); every other weekend, holidays as needed (unit scheduler assigns traveler schedules)

Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients across the stepdown unit — from young adults to geriatrics with complex medical needs
• Interpret cardiac telemetry and respond appropriately to acute changes
• Administer medications and manage IV infusions, including titration of drips (heparin, amiodarone, Cardizem, nitroglycerin, insulin, etc.)
• Provide focused, evidence-based care for sepsis, STEMI, CHF, stroke, respiratory failure and other critical conditions
• Collaborate with CNAs, respiratory therapists (BiPAP, Airvo), and monitor techs to ensure safe, coordinated care
• Own bedside report and hourly rounding to drive patient experience and safety
• Function as charge nurse when required and assist with unit flow including admissions and discharges
• Float to MedSurg, Inpatient Rehab, or Skilled Care when unit needs dictate

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (eligible to submit required)
• Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required at time of submittal
• Driver's license required at submittal (used to confirm 50-mile radius eligibility)
• Must not be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and/or Dignity)
• Successful completion of orientation skills exam (90% pass required) and unit-specific competency shifts

Education

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry interpretation and cardiac monitoring expertise
• IV infusion and drip management with experience titrating medications
• Proficiency with EPIC charting system
• Strong patient assessment and critical thinking skills
• Experience with STEMI and sepsis protocols and care pathways
• Familiarity with respiratory support (BiPAP, high-flow/Airvo)
• Teamwork, bedside reporting, and effective communication with multidisciplinary staff
