Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality PCU/stepdown nursing care for adult and geriatric patients, including burn and post-op plastic surgery patients
• Monitor and interpret telemetry and respond to dysrhythmias and cardiac events
• Perform wound care, burn dressings, flap checks, and manage specialty therapies such as leech therapy and Wound Vac
• Manage vascular access including arterial lines, central lines, peripheral lines, PICCs and start/maintain IVs
• Administer and monitor blood products and titrate IV drips per protocols (including insulin/heparin drips)
• Document patient care accurately using EPIC and use Pyxis for medication management
• Participate on Rapid Response/Code teams and collaborate with interdisciplinary partners to support patient outcomes
• Provide safe respiratory support including oxygen therapy and non-invasive airway management
• Support patient/family education and discharge planning in coordination with the care team
• Float to other units within OSU when needed, adapting quickly to new patient populations and workflows

Qualifications

• BLS required
• ACLS required
• Minimum 2+ years recent PCU/stepdown nursing experience
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
• Comfortable with EPIC documentation and Pyxis medication system
• IV therapy and phlebotomy experience, including central/PICC line care
• Experience with wound care, burn care, flap checks, and specialty procedures preferred
• Previous charge RN experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

• Telemetry monitoring and remote telemetry

• IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC and central/peripheral line care
• Arterial line management
• Blood product administration
• Wound care, Wound Vac, burn dressing techniques
• Flap checks and leech therapy familiarity
• Insulin drip titration and IV insulin protocols; heparin protocols
• PCA management
• Oxygen therapy, nasal cannula, oxygen tanks, non-invasive airway management
• Rapid Response/Code team participation and emergency response
• Feeding tube care and enteral management
• Isolation precautions and proper PPE usage
