Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality patient care on a 30-bed Trauma/Ortho/Surgical telemetry unit, delivering compassionate bedside nursing to complex post-op and trauma patients
• Continuously monitor telemetry and recognize/treat dysrhythmias promptly and accurately
• Perform and maintain competency in sterile procedures such as central line dressing changes and Foley catheter insertion (SIMs Lab pass required)
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including RT, pharmacy, and IV SWAT to coordinate safe, effective care
• Manage post-op transplant, whipple and orthopedic patients—prioritizing patient safety and recovery
• Accurately document care in Cerner and communicate patient status to the care team
• Follow unit-specific policies (grooming and fit-test requirements) and participate in unit orientation and competency checks

Qualifications

• Active RN license (ability to obtain Arizona RN license acceptable; facility will accept candidates waiting for license)
• BLS (AHA) and ACLS required
• Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience required
• Must have Level I trauma experience (required)
• Successful completion of a dysrhythmia exam (travelers have 2 attempts) prior to acceptance
• Willingness and ability to complete day 1 SIMs Lab (sterile technique, Foley insertion, central line dressing changes) and pass competency checks
• Able to work 12-hour night shifts and meet weekend/holiday staffing requirements
• Travel teams: must have own vehicle; comply with facility grooming policies (natural hair color, no facial piercings; men clean-shaven for fit test)

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma accepted
• BSN not required but may be preferred by some managers

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring including Phillips systems and dysrhythmia recognition
• Cerner EMR documentation and charting
• Sterile technique for central line care and Foley catheter management
• Post-op transplant and complex surgical patient management
• Ventilator adjunct familiarity (BiPAP/CPAP) and basic respiratory collaboration
• Wound care, lifts/restraints, and safe patient handling practices
• IV experience and effective collaboration with IV/SWAT teams
• Ability to float across MedSurg and Telemetry units with flexible clinical skills
