Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert post-anesthesia care for pediatric patients in the PACU, ensuring safe recovery
• Continuously monitor vital signs and patient status, intervening promptly when needed
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and the pediatric care team to deliver coordinated care
• Perform thorough handoffs and clear documentation to maintain continuity of care
• Educate families on recovery expectations and discharge instructions with compassion
• Participate in unit orientation and mentoring for new team members

Qualifications

• Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Missouri
• Experience in PACU and/or pediatric nursing preferred
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required; PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) highly preferred
• Strong assessment and prioritization skills in a fast-paced recovery environment
• Comfort with pediatric patient family-centered communication and education
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of post-anesthesia recovery protocols and pain management for pediatrics
• Skill in pediatric assessment, monitoring, and airway management basics
• Proficiency with documentation and electronic medical records
• IV therapy management and medication administration knowledge
• Ability to recognize and respond to clinical deterioration promptly
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
