Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room with sterile instruments and supplies, ensuring everything is ready before incision
• Assist surgeons and the surgical team during procedures by anticipating needs and handing instruments efficiently
• Maintain strict sterile technique and monitor the sterile field throughout the case
• Count instruments, sponges and sharps accurately before, during and after procedures to maintain patient safety
• Clean, decontaminate and properly store instruments and equipment after procedures
• Communicate clearly with the team and support staff to keep cases running smoothly and on schedule

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent training
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred; on-the-job or employer-supported certification acceptable where applicable
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or willing to obtain
• Demonstrated ability to maintain sterile technique and follow OR protocols
• Strong teamwork and communication skills; reliability and punctuality expected
• Previous perioperative or operating room experience preferred

Education

• Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program
• High school diploma or GED

Knowledge & Skills

• Familiarity with surgical instrumentation and common procedural setups
• Knowledge of sterile processing and operating room safety standards
• Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and prioritize tasks under pressure
• Strong attention to detail for counts, documentation and infection control
• Comfort working as part of a multidisciplinary surgical team
