Roles & Responsibilities

Perform thorough pre-operative assessments and prepare pediatric patients for procedures
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to ensure smooth patient flow
Provide clear, compassionate education and support to children and their families
Document assessments and interventions accurately in the patient record
Assist with triage and handoffs to the operating room team, maintaining safety and comfort
Participate in orientation and unit training to maintain pediatric best practices

Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN) — core requirement for this role
Experience or comfort working with pediatric populations and pre-operative care
Current BLS certification; PALS or pediatric certifications are a strong plus
Valid nursing license (state licensure appropriate for practice location)
Strong communication skills with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams
Ability to follow perioperative protocols and maintain a safe environment

Education

Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of pre-operative assessment and pediatric nursing principles
Skill in age-appropriate patient education and family-centered care
Familiarity with perioperative workflows and safety practices
Comfortable with EMR documentation and accurate charting
Ability to prioritize, multitask, and respond calmly in a busy surgical setting
