Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Rotating night shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (12-hour nights). Schedule varies and may include weekends and other coverage as needed to support 24/7 operations.
Hours per Week: 36
Candidate Pay Rate: $63 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide direct and indirect patient care in Emergency Psychiatric Services using the nursing process
- Develop, update, and implement individualized interdisciplinary care plans that promote recovery
- Evaluate patient outcomes and adjust plans of care to optimize safety and therapeutic progress
- Deliver crisis psychiatric care, including de-escalation and safe management of acute behaviors
- Support patients of varied ages (5+) including those needing detoxification or concurrent medical care
- Communicate clearly with the clinical team, patients, and families to coordinate care and resources
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely
- Contribute to a positive unit culture by collaborating and assisting teammates under pressure
Qualifications
- Valid State of Maine Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Associate degree (2-year) in Nursing required
- Minimum of 1 year prior mental health/psychiatric nursing experience
- Current BLS certification required
- Current CPI (Crisis Prevention/Intervention) training required prior to start
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills with ability to make sound decisions under pressure
- Flexibility to provide coverage across a 24/7 unit; excellent teamwork and stress management abilities
- Note: Previous St. Mary's employees are not eligible for this role
Education
- Associate Degree (2-year) in Nursing (required)
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in mental health nursing, crisis psychiatric care, and care planning
- Experienced with patient outcome evaluation and resource identification
- Comfortable providing care across the lifespan (ages 5+), including adolescent needs
- Competent in detoxification care processes and recognizing medical needs in psychiatric patients
- Strong interpersonal communication, teamwork, and decision-making skills
- Able to manage stress, de-escalate situations, and maintain clinical calm in emergencies
