Roles & Responsibilities
- Triage every patient entering the emergency care system and prioritize care based on clinical and psychosocial needs
- Perform thorough patient assessments and document detailed nursing histories including chief complaint and health status
- Develop and implement individualized plans of care, updating them continuously based on reassessments
- Ensure supplies and equipment are available and in working order to support safe, timely care
- Manage complications and emergencies per Mount Nittany Medical Center policies and ENA standards
- Recognize changes in patient status and direct appropriate interventions to maintain patient safety
- Document patient responses to interventions and coordinate with interdisciplinary team members
- Provide clear, compassionate patient and family education and document understanding of discharge instructions
- Conduct hourly rounding and half-hour waiting room checks when patients are waiting to improve flow and patient experience
Qualifications
- Current Pennsylvania Registered Nurse (RN) licensure required
- Current BLS (Healthcare Provider) required and renewed every two years
- Current ACLS required and renewed every two years
- Current PALS required and renewed every two years
- Valid NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification required
- Comfortable working to Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) standards
- Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills and ability to work as a team liaison
- EPIC electronic charting experience preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Triage and patient assessment across the lifespan (neonate through geriatric)
- Care planning and nursing process application
- Nursing documentation and electronic charting (EPIC preferred)
- Emergency care and management of acute complications
- Patient and family education and discharge planning
- Ability to perform hourly rounding and waiting-room patient safety checks
- Familiarity with ENA standards and hospital emergency policies
