Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care using the full nursing process: assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate
- Coordinate and direct nursing care across the continuum to achieve the best patient outcomes
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, cost-effective, high-quality care
- Perform patient assessments, interpret diagnostic tests, and administer medications and treatments safely
- Develop and document individualized nursing diagnoses, care plans, and progress notes
- Provide patient, family and caregiver education tailored to age-specific and cultural needs
- Supervise unit secretaries and patient care technicians in collaboration with the charge nurse
- Maintain competency through training and skills validation required for the role
- Support the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation mission by delivering culturally respectful care
- Use basic EKG and cystoscopy equipment as appropriate for outpatient duties
Qualifications
- Active Alaska Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
- Completion of a nursing education program from an NLN-approved institution
- Current BLS certification required
- Basic EKG skills; experience with cystoscopy equipment is a plus
- Preferred: at least 1 year of healthcare experience as an RN
- Proficient oral and written communication skills and comfort with office/computer equipment
- Ability to pass and maintain required competencies for the assignment
- Flexibility in schedule and ability to practice independently within scope and policy
- Comfort working with patients from birth through elderly and with diverse cultural backgrounds
Education
- Completion of a nursing education program from an NLN-approved institution
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong command of the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation)
- Care coordination and continuity of care across settings
- Patient assessment, medication administration and basic EKG interpretation
- Clear documentation and medical terminology knowledge
- Ability to interpret diagnostic tests and apply clinical judgment
- Effective patient and family education techniques
- Proficiency with common office and medical equipment and electronic documentation
- Cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse populations
