Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist with patient care and room coverage to complement staffing needs
• Evaluate sonograms for technical quality and ensure accurate imaging
• Operate, adjust, and calibrate ultrasound equipment to produce optimal images
• Select appropriate imaging modes and technical factors for exams
• Provide leadership by coordinating and delegating patient care when needed
• Support scheduling, payroll review, staff education, and onboarding activities
• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
• Identify and implement cost-saving and quality-improvement initiatives
• Represent UnityPoint Health professionally and promote positive interpersonal relations

Qualifications

• Current registration/certification with ARDMS or ARRT in Sonography (required)
• Demonstrated experience in diagnostic ultrasound and sonography
• Ability to evaluate image quality and adjust machine settings appropriately
• Experience with equipment calibration and basic troubleshooting
• Leadership or supervisory experience preferred; ability to act as supervisor in absence of leadership
• Comfortable working varied third-shift hours and participating in call/weekend/holiday rotation

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient-centered care and strong communication skills
• Proficiency in diagnostic sonography techniques and image interpretation
• Skilled in ultrasound equipment operation, calibration, and maintenance
• Knowledge of selecting imaging modes and technical factors for quality imaging
• Collaborative approach to working with physicians and healthcare teams
• Organizational skills for coordinating schedules, staff education, and daily operations
