Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide skilled, compassionate nursing care to adult neuro stepdown and medical intermediate patients
• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms on telemetry and respond to dysrhythmias using rapid response/code teams as needed
• Manage ventilated patients, tracheostomies, high-flow oxygen devices, and perform ABG interpretation
• Administer and titrate critical infusions (insulin drips, vasoactive and cardiac drips, LEVO per protocol)
• Perform central and peripheral line care, start and maintain IVs, and manage PICC lines and blood product administration
• Support pre/post neurosurgery and neuro-specific care (post TPA, craniotomy, lumbar drains, aneurysm repair care)
• Deliver tube feeding, wound care including Wound Vac, and manage surgical drains and CBI when required
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and follow Novant behavioral expectations and unit call-off policies

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license in North Carolina (or compact license as applicable)
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience with neuro/stepdown or related intermediate care (screen and call out if neuro experience is limited)
• Previous travel experience preferred — unit will not accept first-time travelers
• Current ACLS and BCLS (BLS) certifications; NIHSS required; CCRN, TNCC, CPI are preferred
• Able to titrate LEVO and insulin drips per protocol and pass pre-start EKG competency testing
• Willingness to float to other intermediate areas and work required weekend coverage
• Compliance with flu vaccine policy (medical/religious exemptions allowed); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline

Knowledge & Skills

• Neuro Stepdown / PCU / IMC / Telemetry care
• Cardiac monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Rapid Response and Code team participation
• Ventilator and tracheostomy care, BiPAP/CPAP and HFNC management
• ABG interpretation and oxygen delivery management
• IV therapy, central line/PICC care, blood product administration
• Feeding tube management, CBI, and pre/post hemodialysis patient management
• Wound care and Wound Vac expertise; familiarity with TR Band and post-procedure care
• Familiarity with Epic charting and Pyxis medication systems
• Ability to follow heparin protocols, titrate vasoactive/cardiac drips, and manage complex neuro diagnoses (CVA, intracranial bleed, TBI)
