Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform pre-operative assessments and ensure pediatric patients are ready for surgery
• Communicate clearly and compassionately with children and their families to reduce anxiety
• Prepare and maintain a safe and sterile pre-op environment
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff for smooth handoffs
• Document assessments and interventions accurately in the patient record
• Monitor patients for changes and escalate concerns promptly to the care team

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri (or compact RN meeting state requirements)
• Pediatric experience or a strong interest in working with children
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred
• Experience in pre-op or perioperative nursing is a plus
• Excellent communication skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
• Ability to complete required orientation and facility onboarding

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred where noted by facility.

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in pediatric patient assessment and age-appropriate communication
• Comfortable with pre-operative procedures, IV starts, and medication administration
• Familiarity with electronic health records and accurate documentation
• Strong teamwork and time-management skills in a fast-paced surgical setting
• Ability to provide compassionate, family-centered care
