Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough pre-operative assessments for pediatric patients to ensure safety and readiness for surgery
• Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative teams to prepare patients and streamline the OR schedule
• Educate children and families about pre-op instructions and what to expect, providing calming, age-appropriate explanations
• Document assessments, interventions, and handoffs accurately in the medical record
• Participate in orientation and unit training to maintain high standards of pediatric pre-op care

Qualifications

• Active Washington RN license (required)
• Experience in pre-operative nursing and/or pediatric nursing (demonstrated through past roles or clinical work)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Pediatrics Advanced Life Support (PALS) or equivalent is a plus
• Comfort working with children and families, with strong communication and assessment skills
• Professional, reliable, and able to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric pre-op assessment and pediatric vital sign interpretation
• Patient and family education with an emphasis on age-appropriate communication
• Comfortable with perioperative workflows and OR team coordination
• Accurate clinical documentation and familiarity with electronic health records
• Strong teamwork, situational awareness, and attention to detail
