Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare pediatric patients for surgical procedures by performing thorough pre-operative assessments
• Provide compassionate education and emotional support to children and their families prior to procedures
• Start IVs, administer pre-op medications, and monitor vitals to ensure safe handoffs to the OR team
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to coordinate care
• Document assessments, interventions, and communication clearly in the patient record
• Advocate for patient safety, comfort, and dignity during the pre-operative process

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; PALS preferred
• Previous pediatric nursing experience or pre-op/surgical experience preferred
• Comfortable with pediatric assessment, intravenous access, and medication administration
• Strong communication skills and ability to support families during stressful moments
• Ability to complete orientation and required facility onboarding

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication techniques
• Pre-operative nursing processes and safety protocols
• IV starts, medication administration, and vital signs monitoring
• Familiarity with electronic health records and clear documentation practices
• Teamwork and effective interdisciplinary communication
• Calm, patient-focused bedside manner for children and families
