Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate pre-operative nursing care to pediatric patients, ensuring safety and comfort before procedures
• Perform focused pre-op assessments and document findings clearly and accurately
• Prepare patients and families with clear, reassuring education about the pre-op process
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative team members to coordinate care
• Assist with preparation of the procedural area and ensure equipment and supplies are ready
• Monitor and report changes in patient condition, escalating concerns promptly to the care team
• Support a family-centered approach, addressing questions and easing anxieties with empathy

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) credential — pediatric experience preferred
• Experience in pre-operative or perioperative nursing, especially with children
• BLS certification required; PALS or pediatric certifications highly desirable
• Comfortable performing focused assessments, IV starts, and pediatric medication administration
• Strong communication skills for working with families and multidisciplinary teams
• Ability to participate in required orientation and follow facility protocols

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of pediatric pre-op assessment and preparation
• Skill with pediatric IV/vascular access and medication administration
• Familiarity with perioperative safety practices and infection control
• Excellent family-centered communication and teaching skills
• Ability to document accurately in electronic medical records
• Teamwork and adaptability in a fast-paced procedural environment
